Waistband Elastic Rolling?
An easy fix you can sew right in.
As I get ready for our baby girl’s arrival (!!) this letter is short and sweet, but still useful. Especially if you have an elastic waistband that loves to roll.
I have a pair of pants that always comes out of the wash with a twisted waistband.
Here’s a quick fix.
To keep the elastic in pull-on skirts and pants from rolling, try ditch-stitching at the vertical seamlines. It’s an easy solution since you can leave the elastic in. No seam ripping needed.
First, untwist the elastic and adjust the gathers.
Try stretching the waistband all the way out, then letting it snap back to help straighten any twists. You might need to adjust it further by hand. Then evenly adjust the gathers on both front and back.
Second, find the vertical seams on your waistband.
On this pair of pants, they were at the side seams.
Third, ditch-stitch at the vertical seams.
Ditch-stitch by sewing through the waistband and elastic in the seam well. For a clean finish, anchor and lose your thread tails with a hand needle instead of trimming them at the machine.
That’s it! A no-roll waistband in three easy steps.
Thank you for being here, and see you next time!
